Last weekend Jay & I headed back to Philly for the wedding of our friends, Roberta & Eric. The ceremony took place at the church where the couple regularly attends, which was very sweet since their priest had a very intimate knowledge of them, both as a couple & as individuals. I really loved that Ro & Eric chose non-traditional music that meant something to them. It was a special touch to an already beautiful ceremony.
After the ceremony, there were still 3 hours to kill before cocktail hour began, so we decided to kill time in the city. We had our car valeted and I quickly realized there was no way I would be able to walk the uneven streets of Philadelphia in stilettos. Graceful in heels, I am not. Luckily, the Kimpton Hotel Palomar has a cozy lobby, so we plopped ourselves down & anxiously watched the clock.
About 1.5 hours down, I became hangry (that’s a real thing, people), so like the awesome hubby he is, Jay found the nearest place to procure a snack – Federal Donuts. Truthfully, it was in his best interest because my pleasant mood was quickly diminishing. With yummy donuts in my tummy, the next 1.5 hours passed quickly.
With a veggie station & delicious, mini hors d’oeuvres, there was no shortage of food during cocktail hour. The food was amazing; and it took a lot of restraint not to fill up on every thing before dinner started.
I adored the hot air balloon centerpieces that graced the tables, which were made by the bride & her sister, Flora. It was such a personal touch, a nod to how Eric proposed to Ro on a hot air balloon ride. Adorable.
If there was a Maid of Honor of the Year award, it would have to go to Flora. Not only did she give a simple, heartfelt toast, but when it came time to hit the dance floor she did her best to get all of the guests out there. Every one, old and young, let loose! My feet were killing me, so Jay & I took a turn at the photo booth – such a big hit!
We were having such a great time that it slipped away from us. By the time we noticed the clock, it was past 11 o’clock & we still had to make the drive back to Washington, D.C. that night. We said our goodbye’s to the newlyweds, and like Cinderella, we made haste. Our car did not turn into a pumpkin & no glass slippers were lost, but Reesie had to spend the night w/ her Aunt Gaby because it was too late to pick her up. Thank goodness for living close to friends again.
Driving back to D.C. with my “forever +1” I was reminded how lucky I am to be married to Jay, whom I laugh with & love more than the day we married. I am so proud of the life we have built together & the people we have met on our journey. Nine years ago, I never would have guessed how much more I could love this man, but I do.
May you continue to grow in your love for Christ and for each other.
Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Chang!
