My dad often jokes about how I’ve made a career out of being a student. Much to my chagrin, some of the greatest truths are told in jest. There’s no denying that I’ve spent the better half of my life either in school, working or both. Despite the jokes, sleepless nights, stress, and (a lot) of tears, I truly have no regrets. My “career” as a student has finally come to an end, but the learning does not stop here. The future, MY future, is equal parts exciting & scary.
With this chapter rapidly closing, the expectation is that we would move back West & settle down, like we planned all those years ago. However, our plans for the future have changed tremendously in the last couple of years. For starters, we never thought Jay would leave his job at Lockheed Martin for a computer start-up, but he did. The change in jobs has been so great for him – he’s working on projects that are fun & challenging – and it has allowed him to move with me as I traipsed around the U.S. for rotations. Of course, there’s a trade-off for everything and in this case it means that we will be moving to Washington before the month is through. Not to Washington state as we had dreamed of, but to the suburbs of Washington, D.C.
Even though this is not part of our original plan, we have learned to just roll with life’s punches. We are so excited to be embarking on yet another unpredictable adventure together! Stay tuned for our shenanigans on “the hill”!
