Taking the ferry from Mukilteo was hassle-free and a relatively inexpensive way to get to Whidbey Island. Never having been on a ferry before, we were impressed by the efficiency in which people, pets, cars, and bikes were loaded up. No more than 20 minutes later were we docked on Whidbey and ready to explore.
With no destination in mind, our goal (as cliche as it sounds) was to get lost – so we picked a direction and started driving. Sure, we came to a few dead-ends, but we just turned around and started off in a different direction.
I’m glad I forced my inner control freak to take a back seat (see what I did there?) because “getting lost” landed us in some of the most beautiful places with the most spectacular views that this little island has to offer. If I had to do it over, I wouldn’t change a thing. Except maybe I’d pack more snacks.
