As a child, Memorial Day weekend always marked the start of summer vacation, so naturally I associate the holiday with family BBQ’s, going to the lake and running amuck with my cousins. Those days of stirring up trouble are over, but we still managed to usher the summer in with a blast!
Yesterday, we had a cookout with our neighbors – Chris, Kathy and their kids (Laura & Christopher). Jay and Chris fired up the grill while the rest of us soaked up the sun by the pool. We spent hours racing back & forth, doing underwater hand-stands and retrieving items from the bottom of the pool. It definitely brought back fond childhood memories.
As an adult, and after the wake of 9/11 in this country, it would be remiss to forget the reason that we celebrate this day. Sometimes we, myself included, get wrapped up in the excitement of having a long, three-day weekend that we forget to reflect on the freedoms that we enjoy. I’d like to pause and thank all of my family & friends that have served or are currently serving, as well as, all members of the military for your sacrifice and service!
