Summer in the Commons

I’m officially on summer break! Granted, it’s just for one week but it’s just enough time to recharge my batteries before having to hit the ground running. I don’t have big plans, but I’m looking forward to being lazy with Jay and Reesie. Thanks to fantastic weather this past weekend, I was able to get a pretty good head-start on those plans.

On Saturday, we headed to the Commons for a picnic. Usually we try to take the T into the city to avoid the exorbitant parking fees, but since we had Reesie we drove in and parked in the garage under Boston Common.

I tried to do some light reading of the non-textbook variety, but we were continuously approached by people wanting to pet or play with Reesie, so I eventually gave up and settled for some good ol’ fashioned people-watching. Reesie is such a ham; she absolutely loved all of the attention.

Back at home, Jay cooked up steaks, potato gratin and asparagus for dinner. It wasn’t the healthiest meal, but it sure was scrumptious!

On Sunday, we met up with our friends – Dan & Jenny – at the park before having lunch and drinks at Quincy Market. We ate at Dick’s Last Resort – the restaurant where the servers and bartenders make fun of patrons. Yeah, that one. It was fun, but I’ll admit it, I sweating the entire time. I think I prefer my meals sans insults. Other than eating at Dick’s, it was just the low-key weekend I needed to unwind after the craziness that was finals week.

Sidenote: Switchfoot, Third Eye Blind, and the Spin Doctors played a free concert at the Hatch Shell on Saturday! I can’t believe we were in the city & missed it. Such a bummer.
