On February 7th, we lost a four-legged member of our family, and we will never be the same. When my mom called with the news, she couldn’t get the words out through her sobs, but I knew they had put her to sleep. Part of me was relieved because she had been suffering for a while – the passage of time had taken a toll on her 14-year old bones – and it was obvious she was in pain. The other part of me, the dominant part, is heart broken.
I’ll always remember how she took care of her bunnies (yes, she had pets of her own); how she waited for us to wipe her paws when she came inside the house; how she attacked Jay (I just literally laughed out loud) when he tried to scare me; and how she always chose to sleep on my bed at night. Those paws walked into our lives and left paw-prints on our hearts.
