During the week, I was consumed with work at an optometry office in Kirkland, but we did our best to do a lot of sight-seeing over the weekend. On this particular day, we set out to explore more of Seattle, but ended up taking the ferry across Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island and even further west to Port Angeles & Mount Olympus. It was quite the one-day trek!
The view of Seattle from the water was so beautiful even against stormy skies. I think it’s by far my favorite way to take in the city, but if someone else knows of an epic vantage point I am all ears.
It’s amazing how a quick ferry ride across the sound can transport you away from the city lights & skyscrapers of Seattle to the more serene, tree-covered skyline of the suburbs. It was love at first sight when Bainbridge started to come into view. This – where forest meets ocean – has fueled my dreams and will continue to do so until I can make living in the PNW a reality.
Once we disembarked in Bainbridge, we picked a direction and just started to drive. Apparently, the PNW brings out the spontaneity in us because “getting lost” has quickly become the theme of our Washington adventures. If you’ve been following this blog for a while or know Jay & I “in real life,” you’ll know this goes against our nature. Planners gonna plan. Alas, wandering aimlessly brought us to some pretty awesome places.
Pelting rain forced us back into the car. As the windows fogged up around us, we searched for a place to hunker down and grab a snack until the weather passed. Despite the rainy weather, it was rather warm outside, so we decided to grab ice cream cones at Mora because we heard that was the place to go.
I’m inclined to agree with the hype because not only did they have creative, indulgent flavors, but they also offered a (free) frozen treat for my furbabe when they saw my dad sitting with her outside. Any place that gives special attention to furry, four-legged babies is fan-flipping-tastic in my book!
As we sat there munching on our ice cream cones, my dad mentioned wanting to visit Port Angeles (it’s possible he’s a closeted Twilight fan) & Olympic National Park at some point. Jay google-mapped (can I use that as a verb?) the distance, which turned out to be just an hour and a half northwest of us, so we thought…what the heck, when in Rome Washington!
